We are developing the next generation of 3D printers, powered by machine vision and machine learning. We are pushing the limits of additive manufacturing to create a better future.

Our technology is funded in part by DARPA and the National Science Foundation, whose support is gratefully acknowledged. Inkbit is an Engine Network company.

Technology

We have developed a new 3D printer that integrates a proprietary, first-of-its-kind vision system that enables feedback control operation and real-time error correction. Our technology is exclusively licensed from MIT and enables printing with high-performance materials and integration of external components such as electronics. Our first machine, which we expect to launch sometime in 2019, is designed from the ground up for high-volume manufacturing of functional, multi-material parts.

Computational manufacturing

Endowing a 3D printer with eyes and brain opens up a new universe in manufacturing. We are bringing the power of computation and digital thinking to a manufacturing world that is still largely analog.

Functional materials

Our goal is to enable engineers and product designers to rapidly iterate on their ideas, by using the same machine for prototyping and volume production of functional, multi-material products.

Hybrid printing

The vision system integrated into our machine enables printing around existing objects. This allows production of parts that combine additive manufacturing with other well-established production methods.

Quality printing

Printing with an integrated vision system also means that every bit of material deposited is recorded and stored for ease of tracking, quality control and process improvement.

Founders

Davide Marini

Davide is a cofounder and CEO at Inkbit. He was previously cofounder and CEO at Firefly BioWorks, an MIT startup that commercialized a novel assay for miRNA detection, based on functional microparticles manufactured by flow lithography. Davide led Firefly from inception to its acquisition by Abcam. He obtained his BS in Industrial Engineering from Politecnico of Milan and his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from MIT.

Wojciech Matusik

Wojciech is a cofounder and CTO at Inkbit. He is also a Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT. The technological foundation of our company was developed in his laboratory. Prior to joining the MIT faculty, Wojciech worked in computer graphics and additive manufacturing research at Mitsubishi, Adobe and Disney Imagineering.

Kiril VidimĨe

Kiril is a cofounder and VP of Engineering at Inkbit. He leads the development of our printer and machine vision system. As part of his graduate research at MIT, Kiril developed OpenFab and Foundry, a novel software architecture for multi-material additive manufacturing. Prior to MIT, Kiril worked as Research Engineer and Technical Director at Intel, Pixar Animation Studios, SGI and SRI International.

Javier Ramos

Javier is a cofounder and Director of Hardware at Inkbit. He leads the design of our printer and previously worked at Rethink Robotics and Leaf. Javier obtained his BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from MIT.

Wenshou Wang

Wenshou is a cofounder and Director of Materials Development at Inkbit. He oversaw materials development in Wojciech's lab at MIT, prior to joining Inkbit. Wenshou obtained his PhD in Polymer Science from Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Board of Directors

Michael Davin

Michael is Chairman of the Board and VP of Business Development at Inkbit. Prior to Inkbit, Michael served as CEO at Cynosure, a manufacturer of medical lasers. During his 14-year tenure at Cynosure, he led the company to an IPO, oversaw its international expansion, executed key acquisitions and achieved compound annual revenue growth of more than 20 percent. Cynosure was acquired by Hologic in 2017 for $1.7 billion. Michael received his BS and BA from Southern New Hampshire University.

Alberto Forchielli

Alberto is a Board Member at Inkbit and Founding Partner at Mandarin Capital, a private equity investment fund focused on manufacturing in Italy, China and India. His career included startup companies as well as supranational institutions such as the World Bank. Alberto obtained his MBA from Harvard Business School.

William Asher

Bill is a Board Member at Inkbit and has served as legal counsel to technology and life sciences businesses for more than 35 years. As a partner at Boston law firm Choate, LLP, and previously at Testa, Hurwitz and Thibeault, LLP, Bill brings deep experience in corporate finance, securities law, strategic transactions and corporate governance. Bill received his BA and JD from Harvard.

Dario Rea

Dario is a Board Member at Inkbit and Head of Technological Innovation at IMA, SpA, a leading equipment manufacturer for the pharmaceutical and food industries that has produced equipment for 57 years. Dario obtained his BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bologna.
